PRE-SCHOOL PROGRAM (Ages 2.5-6)
Pre 1 (1.5 - 3) Child must be potty trained.
Pre 2 (3.5 - 4)
Pre 3 (4 - 6)
At Connecticut Dance Theatre & the Arts, the pre-school children have a “3 in 1” class. Based on the premise of the younger child having only a twenty minute attention span, the class has three sessions of twenty minutes each. These are in succession and include Tap, Jazz and Tumbling. Much can be accomplished in the twenty minutes since the children do not become bored. This program emphasizes on coordination, confidence, discipline and creativity.

ADULT & TEEN PROGRAM
At Connecticut Dance Theatre & the Arts the adult program consists of a half hour tap and a half hour jazz class. (See descriptions under tap & jazz) The class is based on the premise of learning through exercise and music.

TAP
A style of American Theatrical Dance, distinguished by percussive footwork that makes out precise rhythmic patterns on the floor.

JAZZ
A fusion of kicks leaps and turns put to the beat of the music. Jazz encompasses a large number of styles and variations.

BALLET
A form of dancing performed for theatre audiences. Like other dance forms, ballet may tell a story, express a mood or simply reflect the music. But a ballet dancer’s technique (way of performing) and special skills differ greatly from those of other dancers. Ballet dancers perform many movements that are unnatural for the body. But when these movements are well executed, they look natural.

LYRICAL
Lyrical dance is more interpretive. The dancer in many ways reflects the actual lyrics of the songs; this can manifest itself through the portrayal of a certain character. Lyrical focuses on soft and flowing movements similar to ballet.

HIP-HOP
A musical style with funk, rhythm and blues, and ethnic roots; characterized by a strong beat, intricate mixing of recorded

music and a strong speech known as rapping.

COMPETITION TEAM

The CTDTA National Competition Team is a group of highly dedicated and motivated students and parents. To become a member of the CTDTA Competition Team one must show determination, dedication, perseverance and an eagerness to learn. Your talent should be able to handle beginner, intermediate and advice levels of dance.

This is noticed by our teachers and the director who will then invite the student via written notification to audition for the team. This does not guarantee your child a seat on the team, whether alumni and or new. This is only the first stage of joining our team.

You must then pass your audition exam with the all of the other candidates. You will be notified of what is expected of you on that date.

When this portion is passed and the directors and staff have come to a decision a meeting is held with the parents and student that has been accepted. At this time, we will explain the rigorous class schedule all team members must be enrolled in all aspects of dance, tap, jazz and ballet in addition to the actual completion classes.

There are many other expectations that we require from both student and parent to fulfill. This can be the most rewarding challenge a family can take together. Remember, we at CTDTA expect time, dedication and a lot of hard work. This is a major commitment but the payoff is bigger than you can expect.
